After conducting the required EIA, the company filed an application on 30.11.2018 for the appropriate environmental permit to build and operate a pulp mill with certain stated parameters in Paltamo. The Regional State Administrative Agency for Northern Finland (AVI) approved the application and granted the permit on 15.7.2020. Various appeals were filed with the Vaasa Administrative Court, which eventually upheld the permit with minor adjustments on 29.9.2022. Some appellants applied for their appeals to be heard by the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland, which declined these applications on 27.03.2024. The permit is thereby fully court endorsed and has acquired the force of law.
